Webhooks stay 14 days on Free

Hookspot keeps each webhook for 14 days on Free and 60 on Pro. On Hookdeck's pricing page, the free plan keeps events for 3 days, plans from $39 a month for 7, and plans from $499 a month for 30.

The gap shows when a webhook fails while you're away. A sender, the service that sends the webhook, posts an order on Friday evening and your handler throws. With 3 days of history, that webhook is close to expiring when you look on Monday. On Hookspot's Free plan, it waits 14 days.

One price for up to 25 people

Hookspot's Free plan has 3 members, and Pro has 25 for a flat $19 a month, or $190 a year. Hookdeck's free plan has 1 user. Its paid plans have unlimited users from $39 a month, plus a price for each event past the first 10,000 a month.

So two people in one organization pay $0 on Hookspot Free and at least $39 a month on Hookdeck once its 14-day trial ends. Up to 25 people pay $19 a month on Pro, for 250,000 deliveries a month. Past 25 people, Hookdeck's unlimited users fit better.

Both keep webhooks while the CLI is off

Stop the CLI and both keep receiving. Hookspot stores each webhook and marks its delivery Skipped. Hookdeck stores each request and records an ignored event with the cause CLI_DISCONNECTED, as its CLI docs describe.

Neither sends them when the CLI starts again. In Hookspot you click Retry on a delivery, or Retry N skipped to send them all. In Hookdeck you retry or replay the requests.

Hookdeck has two extras here, as its CLI docs explain. You can pause delivery before you stop the CLI, and the paused events go out when you unpause. And when the CLI drops without a clean exit, Hookdeck holds events for a short grace window and sends them if it reconnects.

Retry an offline delivery
A delivery skipped as CLI offline, selected under a banner that reads 1 delivery skipped: no CLI was listening, with its Fix it steps.
A skipped delivery has no attempt until you click Retry delivery.

When to choose Hookdeck

  • You deliver webhooks to production too. Hookdeck sends them to any public HTTP URL, and Hookspot only to the app on your laptop.
  • You want to try it before you sign up. hookdeck listen creates a temporary guest account, and Hookspot needs an account first.
  • You want to pause delivery before you stop the CLI, and have the events go out on their own when you resume.
  • More than 25 people need access. Hookdeck's paid plans have unlimited users.

Switching from Hookdeck

  1. Create a route

Sign up, then name a source and pick the path in your app, like /webhooks/orders. Hookspot gives the source a webhook URL.

  2. Point the sender at the webhook URL

In the sender's webhook settings, replace your Hookdeck URL with it.

  3. Run hookspot listen

Install the CLI and log in, then run it where you ran hookdeck listen.

    npm install -g @hookspot/clihookspot loginhookspot listen --forward-to http://localhost:3000
    Follow the quickstart

Send your first webhook to your laptop.

Install the CLI with npm (Node.js 18 or newer) or Homebrew.
